There are many wine estates too in this area, offering wine tours set in beautiful scenery.
Melkbosstrand (Afrikaans for "Milk bush beach"), named after the milkwood trees growing north of the town, is a beautiful coastal village a mere 25 minute drive from Cape Town and situated on the West Coast 7 km from Table View. It is a popular venue for surfing, windsurfing, crayfishing, fishing, kite-surfing.
At sunrise and at sunset, many cyclists can be seen on the road or on the beach between Melkbosstrand and Bloubergstrand. Mountain bikers have many trails to choose from inside the nature reserve.
Well maintained lawns lead onto white, clean beaches offering long walks, sunbathing and safe swimming.
Melkbos is renowned for its seafood served at a number of local restaurants.
Close by are the Durbanville winelands and the Boland mountains where nature lovers have the choice of many hiking trails through the nearby Koeberg Nature Reserve and where scenery includes cliffs, sand dunes and beaches. Don't forget to visit Ratanga Junction theme park, Grand West Casino, Canal Walk shopping centre. Further north, along the West coast is the famed seasonal wild flower area.
Golfers have the choice of numerous first class golf courses in the greater area of Cape Town.
